All Maruti Fronx models now come equipped with six airbags, including dual front, side, and curtain, marking a significant advancement in occupant protection. By adding six airbags to its entire lineup by the end of 2025, Maruti Suzuki is strengthening safety, even in entry-level models. This move is in line with their larger plan.
How Has the Fronx Lineup Changed?
Only the more expensive Zeta and Alpha versions of the Fronx had six airbags until early 2025. Only two front airbags were available on mid-level models, such as Delta+ MT and AGS. With the introduction of the Delta+ (O) variant in May 2024, Maruti made extensive airbag safety more affordable by introducing six airbags at a lower price point (₹9.43 lakh for AGS, ₹8.93 lakh for MT).
All Fronx models currently have six airbags, and the base price has increased slightly (by about 0.5%) to reflect the additional safety features.
The Significance of This
All cars sold in India must have six airbags starting in October 2023, according to recent legislation. Maruti’s recent improvements enhance its safety credentials throughout its portfolio and align it with regulatory requirements.
More significantly, Maruti’s resolve to refocus its brand on safety rather than just price or efficiency is reflected in this strategic change. From SUVs like the Fronx and Brezza to hatchbacks like the Alto and S-Presso, the company is giving priority to features that were previously only seen in pricier models.
Maruti’s wider safety rollout
By the end of 2025, Maruti Suzuki has stated that all models, including the Fronx, Baleno, Ertiga, Ignis, XL6, and S-Presso, will be equipped with six airbags as standard. This update has already been applied to vehicles such as the Alto K10, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Celerio, Brezza, Eeco, and Grand Vitara.
Maruti’s senior executives stress that safety should not be a luxury extra. The company’s “Safety Shield” philosophy guarantees that active and passive technologies, such as ESP, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX anchors, and six airbags, are available even in entry-level vehicles, according to marketing chief Partho Banerjee.
The Implications for Purchasers
Now, the Fronx provides a strong combination of protection and value for potential purchasers in the B-segment SUV market. Customers can now select less expensive models without compromising on six-airbag safety, which was previously only available to those who upgraded to the highest trim levels.
However, there is a trade-off: affordability is still impacted by the slight price increase. Similar price increases of up to ₹32,500 have been announced by Maruti for other models, such as the Celerio.
Safety Scores and Structural Robustness
While six airbags greatly improve passive protection in crashes, structural integrity is just as important for actual crashworthiness. Although the Fronx is based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which uses high-tensile steel and an optimized structure, the results of its crash tests by Bharat NCAP are still pending. Nevertheless, it received a four-star rating in Japan’s JNCAP testing, indicating good safety performance in frontal and side impact situations.
The Fronx’s six airbag standardization by Maruti Suzuki represents a major advancement in the small SUV market. This action demonstrates the brand’s move toward wider use of advanced safety across all price points, going beyond simple regulatory compliance. Together with auxiliary technology like Hill Hold Assist and ESP, the Fronx is now a safer and more advanced option in the B-segment.
By the end of 2025, Indian consumers can anticipate a new norm in safety—one that strikes a compromise between affordability and improved road safety—as Maruti continues to implement similar safety modifications throughout its entire model lineup.
